What You Need to Know About Bathroom Tiles

When it comes to buying bathroom tiles, there’s a lot more to it than just choosing the pattern and colours you like; you need to consider the size and what type of tiles will suit your needs best. There are many different tiles, but not all of them are suitable for bathrooms. Some tiles are best for indoor use, and others are hard-wearing for outdoor spaces. When purchasing tiles for your bathroom, you must ensure that you choose indoor tiles, or you’ll end up replacing them shortly.

AT QMI Tile & Stone, you’ll find a variety of tiles ideal for bathroom areas. If you aren’t sure if the tiles you like are suitable for bathrooms, speak to us, and allow us to advise you.

How to Care For Your Bathroom Wall Tiles

People are mopping their bathroom floor tiles every day, but many people forget their bathroom wall tiles, which are just as important to keep clean. When you have a bath or a shower, the moisture from steam may cause a mildew build-up on your wall tiles’ grouting, which could lead to mould spots. Here are some tips to bear in mind to ensure you keep your wall tiles clean, leaving your bathroom sparkling.

  • Keep them dry. Keep a spare towel or cloth in your bathroom, and after your shower or bath, wipe dry your wall tiles. It is the first step you can take to prevent mildew and mould build-up. Don’t forget that this includes drying your bathroom shower tile area.
  • Use disinfectant. If you already have mildew developing between your tiles, use an all-purpose bathroom cleaning agent to kill off the fungus that causes mould discolouration. If you find it challenging to get in between the tiles, use an old toothbrush to scrub away the build-up.
  • Use steam. Using steam may sound counterproductive, but many people have found it helpful to loosen grime from their tiles, although you need to remember to dry off the water droplets after using a steam cleaner.

How to Choose the Right Bathroom Floor Tiles

With the variety of tiles available these days, making the right decision can seem overwhelming, as you might have to live with your choice for many years. Over the years, your taste and trends in colours and design may change, making your bathroom look dated. When choosing bathroom floor tiles, look for something that you know you can live with for years to come. Here are some tips to assist you in making the correct decision.

Shower Wall and Floor Tiles
  • Ceramic or porcelain. Tiles commonly consist of either ceramic or porcelain, each of which has its benefits. People often choose ceramic tiles for their attractive glazing, which also makes them non-porous and thus perfect for areas that are most likely to get wet. Porcelain tiles are denser than ceramic, and many people choose them not only for their durability but also for their variety of colours and patterns.
  • Size. When looking at tile options, consider their size. If you want to make patterns on your floor, you’ll need smaller tiles, but you’ll wish to use larger tiles for an uncluttered look.
  • Water resistance. Once you have chosen your tiles, you need to make sure to lay them correctly and without any gaps, as this ensures that water won’t seep in between the tiles, which can lead to mould build-up or your tiles lifting.
