The Benefits of Floor Tile Grout

Tile grout is a cement-based mortar that fills the space between tiles. What are some benefits of using grout for your tiles?

  • Floor tile grout gives your floor a crisp finished appearance and seals the gaps to provide strength and durability.
  • It also helps keep dirt and debris from penetrating between or under your tiles and makes it easier to keep your tiled floors clean.
  • Floor tile grout adds rigidity and strength to the tile installation, making your tiles stable.

Important Information About Ceramic Tile Grout

Ceramic tile grout provides a rounded off, finished look to tiled surfaces, and it also acts to prevent mould and bacteria build-up. There are various types of grout for ceramic tiles:

Ceramic Tile Grout
  • Sanded grout is a compound mixed with sand, and it ensures increased durability. The extra strength it offers makes this grout a good choice for use with floor tiles. The material is perfect for marble, granite and stone, as well as for heavier tiles.
  • Unsanded grout is a mortar mixture that does not contain any sand, although it can have other additives. Because of its fine texture, unsanded grout is best to fill in thin grout lines.
  • Epoxy grout is most suitable for ceramic tiles. Like epoxy tile adhesive, epoxy grout is notoriously challenging to work with, but the advantage is that it remains the most durable option. It is also chemical resistant and waterproof, and these qualities make epoxy grout perfect for showers and bathrooms. It is best for porcelain and ceramic tiles.
